“A Unique Approach to Meeting New People”

If you’re tired of the usual ways of trying to meet new people and the backlash that sometimes comes with it, Passionfruit is a totally new way to connect. Instead of using a picture for your profile, your passions are listed, and you can find people that share your interests.

It does take some getting used to. After trying to make friends online on social media, Passionfruit can seem bare bones. There are no likes to be had, no push to make something viral, just simple conversation about things you love to do. But, in a way that’s what’s so totally refreshing and simple about it.

Although Passionfruit can help you meet people in a new city or close to home, there are currently not enough people on the app to make that an easy thing to do. User engagement is also low, with some users not bothering to reply to a connection message. After using the app for a month, I haven’t been able to truly connect and keep a conversation going with anyone.

Friendship like it used to be, where you can talk about something that isn’t superficial, learn from others, and share your opinion in a respectful environment.

However, I do love the premise behind the app. I will continue to use it in hopes that the old ways of being tracked,  whether it’s having my privacy up for grabs and connecting with people that just want to sell me something, can give way to sincere friendship. Perhaps a new social order will come about that’s more genuine and less anxiety-provoking. Friendship like it used to be, where you can talk about something that isn’t superficial, learn from others, and share your opinion in a respectful environment.

So, if you want to try a new app for making friends, definitely give Passionfruit a try, I think they’re on to something special and worthwhile.
